My favourite pocket ^_^

In pattern cutting I learn how to do hip pocket, lined patch pocket and a slash welt pocket.
The easiest one I found was the lined patch pocket follow by the hip pocket ( high-end street) and the hardest one I found was the slash welt pocket ( couture), must say that I am absolutely adored this pocket because it gave an smart elegant look that you can popularly found this pocket in most of tailored suit.

I personally love tailored cut because it look elegant, sophistication and smart. Even though it is very difficult to do but I think it is worth it to challenge your self for a professional standard look.

Here is my slash welt pocket sample.

Pattern Cutting on reduce trousers size

On last Friday it was my pattern cutting lesson, in this session I learnt how to reduce a trousers size, from size 12 to size 10....WOW!
I been given a sheet of instruction on how to enlarge the trousers block but the task was to reduce it so the way to do this was follow the step of instruction but backward.

And here is the result.
As you can see the gray line was the original line and the brown line is the new line showing the trousers block is now reduce.
This is the result after the pattern was been cutten out.

In thailand there are a group of creative women that gathered together to creates something creative.

OMG! How Clever of a bottles ^ O ^

As part of my research I have to research about sustainable designers and I found this amazing piece of work which really interest me, her name is Michelle Brand, she is an ecological designer maker, she specialising in up Cycling and designing feed back loops, she is internationally known for her inspirational designs with the humble plastic drinks bottles. Let take a look at the work!

First day back!

I am glad to be back into the college, yesterday was my first day back and I am really exciting for this year. :) (((can't wait until the fashion show, even though we're only starting :P ))) Out first brief is called "Design Principles in Art & Design" when I was first given the brief I didn't quite understand but after having to research it became much more understandable to me ^_^. On this brief I have to research the meaning of sustainability and form and function

fingers are bleeding!

Before I explain my day let me give a brief explanation as to what Cellulose Nitrate non shrinking dope is. This is a glue that is slightly thicker than water and seals coverings such as Nylon, Tissue and silk.

Getting back to today in college, I painted the Cellulose Nitrate non shrinking dope onto my fabric to give strength and structure ready to pleat. I then hung my pieces up to dry. The fabric is now really nice and crisp almost like a paper but the smell of the Nitrate dope is so strong it traveled around the whole of the college ground floor. (I am surprised I'm not sitting here hallucinating) wonder if I got anyone high in college????

Great I stiffened my pleats but here is the down side, I have broken my needle trying to force it through the stiffened fabric with pliers and my fingers are near bleeding point.
Oh well tomorrow is another day for a fresh start and a fresh needle.

In a previous blog I showed you images of an independent project. I was attempting to put origami in a fitted front bodice.

Attaching the pieces together was a nightmare but I am pleased with the result *______*

A good day :)

Tomorrow I am faced with a day of pleating :( but the end is near.

Independent work

I started my morning off by sewing the front and back panels of my dress together but came to a stand still when I remembered I hadn't bought a zip.
To gain a high grade it has been drummed into us that we must carry out independent work. I spend the afternoon experimenting with origami in a front bodice. I have not completed it yet but here is my progress so far.

This shows my design lines on the bodice and I have sliced up into four pieces.

From my cut up pieces I sliced open the design line and added a fold which extended the pattern piece. This photo shows me placing them on the fabric and cutting out.

Here I have sewn the pieces together which resembles a lantern.
This is as far as I have got today and will post a picture of the finished result in a future post.

Beautiful fabric

I spent most of today cutting my pattern pieces out of my final fabric.
The fabric I bought were dry silk, duchess satin and shantung.
I am making good progress and am REALLY excited about finishing it as I want to see it complete.

Completed Toile

" WOW WOW WOW ! ! ! " * O *

I just cannot believe that I have finally finished my toile today. I am very pleased with the outcome I've achieved and cannot wait to go fabric shopping to make my final garment.
i found the found the dress easy to make but the pleating very time consuming. Attaching the pleats onto the dress was also difficult because it is very fiddly and you need much concentration while stitching the pleats onto a dress.

This is the stage I am up to today.

What have I achieved today?

Over the weeks my peers and I have been bag packing at Marks & Spencers. This is to raise money to put on our end of year fashion show. Today was our last bag pack. My individual target was £80 and I raised £100. Really pleased with this amount and glad that bag packing is finished,
In the afternoon I continued to work on my toile. I have inserted the facing and the straps on to the dress.

Here is the result.

This show where I want my straps.

And here, finaly the complete dress toile.

I am very happy with the outcome and cannot wait to see it in my final fabric.

Pattern Cutting

Today in Pattern Cutting lesson I've began to make my toile for my last unit. The picture below shows the outcome that I've achieved today.

FRONT

BACK

I first traced around the dress block and added a 1.5cm seam allowance and I have also removed the dart at the front and moved it into the side. I have decided to continue this line down the dress to create panels.

I then cut out the new pattern and closed the back dart, after this I pinned the dress pattern onto the mannequin and drew in my design line then cut the unwanted paper away.
