Completed Toile

" WOW WOW WOW ! ! ! " * O *

I just cannot believe that I have finally finished my toile today. I am very pleased with the outcome I've achieved and cannot wait to go fabric shopping to make my final garment.
i found the found the dress easy to make but the pleating very time consuming. Attaching the pleats onto the dress was also difficult because it is very fiddly and you need much concentration while stitching the pleats onto a dress.

Pleating

Today in Pattern Cutting I've been inserted some pleats onto my toile.
I am very exciting to see this in the finnish garment.
This is the stage I am up to today.

What have I achieved today?

Over the weeks my peers and I have been bag packing at Marks & Spencers. This is to raise money to put on our end of year fashion show. Today was our last bag pack. My individual target was £80 and I raised £100. Really pleased with this amount and glad that bag packing is finished,
In the afternoon I continued to work on my toile. I have inserted the facing and the straps on to the dress.

Here is the result.

This show where I want my straps.

And here, finaly the complete dress toile.

I am very happy with the outcome and cannot wait to see it in my final fabric.

Pattern Cutting

Today in Pattern Cutting lesson I've began to make my toile for my last unit. The picture below shows the outcome that I've achieved today.

FRONT

BACK

I first traced around the dress block and added a 1.5cm seam allowance and I have also removed the dart at the front and moved it into the side. I have decided to continue this line down the dress to create panels.

I then cut out the new pattern and closed the back dart, after this I pinned the dress pattern onto the mannequin and drew in my design line then cut the unwanted paper away.

Sylist Session

Today a freelance stylist called Jemma Sawyer came into our college and discussed her job. I found her lecture interesting, I had never considered that you would have to research your client. I always thought a stylist chose the clothing without considering a clients personality.
Jemma set the group a tasks. On this task I worked with Kathryn.
TASK
To style Kate Middleton. She is opening a store in the day time.
Below are the results.
I enjoyed this task, however after this insite this is definitely not the route for me.

My colour page

The image below is my colour page. The colours on this page represent the colour pallete for my final garment that will feature on the catwalk in June.

Sampling update

Today in my pattern cutting lesson I have been sampling further with my circle pleats to experiment with the fabric weight and also experiment with different types of pleats.
The outcome to date - I like the sample in picture 1, however there is a problem with the thickness as I cannot machine stitch it together in the center and when I use a needle in cotton it didn't feel secure enough. I am going to re-sample this in a light weight fabric to see if this solves the problem.

pic two - small circle.

Illustration

As part of this unit I have been asked to research into a range of illustrators and experiment in their styles, this is to help me to practice with various medias and the effects they give as I will have to create my own illustration as part of my assessment evidence. I must make sure my illustration conveys my theme.

The images below show work of illustrators that I have recreated.
I am pleased with the outcomes and my favorite is the third one down.

Sampling

Before manufacturing, we sample using different techniques to take the best techniques forward to the final garment.
These images show me beginning to sample the pleats and I have created them in paper and the reason for this is because it is more convenient to practice the pleats in paper because they give structure and at this point I am still uncertain about my fabrics.

I am creating a 360 degrees circle that is pleated and then I will cut them into a shape that resembles the shapes on my design, after that I will pin these pleated shapes onto the mannequin to see what it looks like.

Last Brief ^_^

I cannot believe how excited I was when I heard the words "Last Brief" ^_______________________________^
This brief is all about manufacturing your chosen design from the previous brief.
Below is an image of my chosen design that I am taking forward to manufacture. The pleats on the dress represent wrinkles on the skin, this is also represented through repetition and layering. I am really exciting and cannot wait to see how this works in fabric.

Design Development

The picture shown above is one of my favourite design developments that I am possibly taking forward to manufacture.
The theme of this design is "Age", as you get older your skin changes from tight skin to wringkled skin, I have represented this through pleats, layers of skin represent repetition and layers of the design that is shown above.

What I have learnt throughout this brief?

While doing this brief I have to research anything that links to "Age" as its part of my theme.
One of my research was Age Discrimination, from this research I learnt that individual people are being discriminated against due to their age e.g. a 50 years old women and 20 years old lady would like to apply for a job as a chef and the employer might desided to employ the 20 years old rather than a 50 years old because the lady is more attentiveness in a job OR the employee might desided to employ a 50 years old womean because she have more experiences.

Shape development

Why do we develop shapes?

As a designer, they are always developing a shape to create a next design.
Shape development help us to designe the next design easier, another possitive thing about developing a shape is that your design is coherent and links which make the viwers understand more about where you gain your designs from and how you step onto the next step.

These are example of the shape development that I have created for my Unit.7

Designs Cycle

As part of Unit.7 I must research into the design cycle to understand the important of every stage of the cycle. From the research I've learnt that there are three different type of design cycle; High street design cycle, Couture Design cycle and the Factory design cycle.
I clearly see that every part of the cycle is very important because if you've missed one stage out you cannot complete the garment or if you would to completed the garment, your garment would not be finnish and completed on time.

The picture below show an example of the design cycle.
